Life Increasing Light
In the Holy Qur'an, Surah Nebe, verse 9: We have made sleep a rest for you. Sleep, which is a rest and peace for us, is, like everything else, a normal, moderate hour of sleep. As it has been explained before, a sleep hour that is sufficient for the body to rest will bring health and well-being to our bodies, while oversleeping will bring illness and shame. In addition, both the verses and the hadiths in question always point to the time of dawn to be awake.
Our Lord, whose divine providence is unquestionable, has always decreed to open the doors of mercy, forgiveness and forgiveness to the fullest at the time of dawn.
The wisdom is self-evident, our duty is not to miss this opportunity. I would like to explain why it is absolutely necessary to be awake at the time of dawn with some of the hadiths of our Master:
1.To the one who wakes up in the last half of every night, Allah Almighty will appear in the sky and call out: Whoever supplicates to Me, I accept his supplication. Whoever asks me for something, I will give it to him. Whoever asks forgiveness from Me, I forgive him.
2.After the first third of every night has passed, Allah Almighty manifests Himself in the sky and calls out until the sun rises:
Whoever invokes Me, I will not leave him unanswered. Whoever asks Me for something, I will give him what he asks for, and whoever asks Me for forgiveness, I will forgive him.
3. After midnight has passed, Allaah manifests Himself in the heavens and calls out until dawn
Whoever asks for anything, I will give it to him. He who supplicates, I will accept his supplication. He who asks for forgiveness, I will forgive him.
4. In the last third of the night Allah Almighty manifests Himself in the sky and says:
Whoever supplicates, I accept him, and whoever asks me for something, I give it to him.
Sleeping at dawn hinders sustenance and attracts sorrows.
Our Prophet Mawlana expressed many couplets based on these hadiths and I would like to present some of them to you: Rubais clt.4.no:87
The wind that blows at this time of dawn is familiar with the secrets in the hearts of the lovers of Hakk. Do not sleep at this auspicious time. This is a time for begging and supplication, not for sleeping. For the people of the two worlds, as a divine grace, the door of wishes that never closes from eternity to eternity is open at the time of dawn.
Don't miss the opportunity, don't fall asleep!
Sir, each word of the Rubain is worth thousands of treasures, but I would like to repeat this verse once again: "For the people of the two worlds, as a divine favor, the door of wishes that never closes from eternity to eternity is open at the time of dawn"
Just this one couplet alone is enough to understand why it is necessary to be awake at the time of dawn. But as you can see how long and prolonged it is. "Knowledge was a point and the ignorant multiplied it." I think we are now the addressee of this saying. But we are willing if our subject will be better understood. "To the people of two worlds", in other words, whether we have a material life or a spiritual life, the goodness and blessings of both are hidden in the time of dawn. In the past, those who were engaged in trade would first go to the mosque for the Fajr prayer, then go early and open their shops in order not to miss the blessing hidden in the time of dawn.
The hadith mentioned earlier already confirms this: "Sleeping at dawn hinders sustenance and attracts sorrow." Of course, this sustenance should be considered both material and spiritual.
Abdulkâdir Geylâni Hazrat said: "The sun rises only on the ignorant. Only the ignorant sleep until the sun rises. Only those who prefer their nafs to Allah get up before the sun rises. Those who are the slaves of Satan will get up after the sun rises on them."
I continue with rubais related to our topic:
Clt.4. :351: The head that lies on the pillow and sleeps is the head that is unaware of it, that does not know it. How can he who is aware of it, who realizes it, who feels its sublime presence in his heart, sleep?
Love comes looking into my two eyes: "Woe to him who sleeps without it.
Clt.4.583: Do not think that you will be happy as long as bad habits are your guide! You are in the sleep of heedlessness until morning, and the night of your life is very short. I am afraid that when you wake up from this sleep, it will be daytime.
Clt.4.:634: Come to your senses, the twilight between night and day is the time to drink the morning wine. You awaken a completely different kindling, other than the moonlight and the sun. Take a spark, a flame from that morning wine, throw it into the chamber of thought, burn it properly, purify it
Clt.4.652: What is night? It is a time given for us to moan and wail. Those who are not in love sleep with their heads on their pillows at this time.
Clt.4.973: O awake one, do you know what night is? Night is the time when the lovers of Hakk are alone with their beloved, from whom they have renounced every stranger.
Clt.4.82: If you want eternal life and happiness, don't sleep, don't sleep burning with the fire of your friend's love. You have slept hundreds of nights, and you have seen what you have gained from it. For God's sake, do not sleep until morning tonight
Sir, as you can see, the night is not only a time to lie down and sleep, but also a time to be alone with the divine lover, to cry and moan. Whether it is material or spiritual, we have a desire, a request that we will make to our Lord. The time when these requests will be answered is pointed out as the time of dawn.
Our spiritual elders have said: "The only way to reduce sleep is to turn towards Mawlana. The friends of Allah traveled the path of Truth with three traits. The first is not to eat out of necessity. The second is not sleeping within the limit of possibility. Third, not talking more than necessary. In short, the soul of the one who sleeps too much is sick and his work is difficult. Too much sleep is laziness and heedlessness. The signs of love for Allah Almighty are three. Sleeplessness at night. Beautiful words and praise to the Exalted.
Therefore, sleep that is not necessary is a disease and a sin. If sleep were a very pleasurable blessing, of course there would be sleep in Paradise. However, there is no sleep in Paradise. So do not pay attention to sleep unless it is completely overpowering. For maturity and perfection cannot be achieved through sleep. Therefore, sleep that is sufficient only for the body is a rest for the soul as well as a rest for the body. The verse in the Qur'an, "We have made sleep a rest for you," should only be understood in this sense."
Sir, I would like to mention one more thing. When we think of night, we naturally think of the darkness that comes after the sun goes down. Of course it is a very correct understanding. But this is a night that we all know and see clearly.
And then there is the night of the night. This is the night that we cannot see clearly but is known to the people. Shams-i Tabriz Hz: "The world is like man, and man is like another world". That is why they say that whatever is in the world is also in man, that the world is the shadow of man. As such, just as we have our sun, moon, stars, night and day in this world, we also have our sun, moon, stars, night and day in our own body house.
Niyâzi Mısrî says in this regard:
You are always the best of the best
Summer and winter are always with you.
Whatever there is in the two worlds is all in you.
Don't look for anything, ask for it and you'll find it
Men aref secret er ko gafletli
See what remzeys this human form
Tamûyu heaven with Hashr-ü neşr.
Don't look for anything, ask for it and you'll find it.
After these couplets, if we want to realize the night in our own body: When our mind comes between our Rûh and our body, a solar eclipse occurs in our inner world. Thus, our body house remains in darkness. Of course, the animal mind is in question here. Not the intellect of the true intellect owners. The mind of the true intellect is like the sun and illuminates the entire universe. In other words, without the collective intellect, the individual intellect is useless. The moon gets its light from the sun. Hz. Mevlana: "Do not call the intellect that is subject to the nafs. Call it the nafs." In short, what I want to present is that when our intellect, which is subject to the nafs, comes between our soul and our body, a subtle night is experienced in our body. Everything is sunshine, but we remain in darkness in our inner world. Then it is necessary to beg, plead, cry and whine day and night without waiting for the physical night. Because now even our day has become night. You know they say enlightened people; real enlightened people are those who are enlightened by the light of Hakk. Because there is no night for them, they are never in darkness. They always see with the light of Hakk.
Shamsi Tabriz-i Hazretleri also evaluates the subtle night experienced in the human body from a different perspective and says "If there is a veil in the heart of a disciple against his Murshid, this is his night. It has been commanded to glorify the Right during the long nights. If a curtain has come between you and your Murshid, it is your night. Then, without despair, pray and supplicate until the veil is removed."
These are different ways of looking at day and night. Of course, there may be evaluations that contain much deeper meanings. But here we wanted to touch on them very briefly so that everyone can understand them.
Hz. Mevlana has such deep, beautiful ghazals for the night that there is no need for any interpretation or commentary. By presenting some of these ghazals to you, let's summarize the subject of getting little sleep, insha'Allah.
Divân-ı Kebir. Clt .1: 143- 106
For the sake of your life, do not give up doing good deeds and do not sleep for a night! Don't fall into sloth!
Consider one night less than your life, count it as missing, stay awake, don't sleep!
You followed your own whims and fancies, you thought of your comfort, you slept for thousands of nights.
Please don't sleep one night for your lover's sake!
Obey that gracious, beautiful lover who has no equal, who never sleeps at night!
Give your heart to him! Find him in your own heart, and you will stay awake, do not sleep for a night!
Remember those nights of illness when you stayed awake until the morning and cried out, "O Lord, O Lord!" and be afraid of those nights and do not sleep even for one night!
Allah Almighty said, "Friends do not sleep at night."
If you hear this verse and realize your mistake and feel a little ashamed of your Creator, do not sleep anymore!
You have heard. Friends of Allah attain their desires and fulfillments at night, for the sake of the sultan of sultans who grants the fulfillments of his friends, do not sleep tonight!
O moon-faced beloved! If you do not sleep for one night, if you give your heart completely to Him, the treasure of immortality will appear to you.
When the evening comes and the sun that illuminates the world sets and the night comes, the sun of the light of the unseen rises and illuminates the hearts and enlightens the eyes. It warms the bodies spiritually.
Dear one, force yourself tonight, don't put your head on the pillow to sleep!
Please don't sleep one night and see the favors and blessings of Allah Almighty!
It is at night when all spiritual beauties and graces show themselves, and the one who sleeps cannot see these beauties. Come to your senses! Don't sleep tonight either!
Moses the son of Imran saw the light of Allah at night. Did he not go towards that tree at night and hear the voice, "Come!"?
At night, Moses traveled more than ten years' journey and saw a tree covered with light from head to toe.
Didn't Prophet Ahmad (PBUH) also ascend the Mi'raj at night?
Did not the Burak take that great prophet beyond the heavens by night?
During the day, people run after sustenance, they toil and strive. Night is the time to meet the beloved, the time of love.
For this reason, the night covers everything with its darkness and draws curtains to protect the lover from the evil eye and to conceal his meeting with his beloved.
When night comes, people get into their beds to rest, they fall asleep, they fall into the embrace of sleep.
But lovers do not sleep at night. They have business with Allah Almighty. They meet and talk with the Almighty spiritually.
Allah Almighty said to Dawud (a.s.): "O Dawud! Whoever claims to love Us, if he goes to bed and sleeps all night, his claim of love is false."
Can a person in love sleep at night? Is that possible? It is unprecedented to fall in love and sleep at the same time.
Because the lover wants to be alone with his beloved in order to tell his heartache and troubles.
All nights, too, there are voices coming from Allah Almighty saying. "O my servant! Everyone has fallen asleep, get up! Let us meet you spiritually. Don't miss this opportunity! This opportunity does not come every time, don't sleep.
When you die and this soul leaves your body, you will long for these nights." Therefore, do not sleep even for one night
